Do you wonder where your food comes from? Who grew it? It says organically grown, but is it? Who do you give your money to for food you feed your family?
When you buy produce at the mass market grocery chain stores, you are by default, supporting the distribution of agriculture from a farm, in other states and countries, by plane, train or truck, to a warehouse, then another truck, finally ending up on your grocer’s shelf or bin. This carbon trail does not support the local farms. This does not help the community that one lives in. Sure, it’s convenient to go to the 24hr superstore and get strawberries in the middle of winter, but do they taste like strawberries? Is that really seasonal? Was it just picked, placed carefully into a bin or basket and drove down the road to the local farmers market?
What makes that product special? Why is that your favorite brand? Is it what your parents bought as a child and it brings back fond memories?
This page showcases some of my favorite farms, coffee and restaurants.
